EHS boys' tennis season underway

The Ellsworth High School boys' tennis season got underway this past weekend at the Baldwin-Woodville Invitational.

BALDWIN - The Ellsworth High School boys' tennis season got underway this past weekend at the Baldwin-Woodville Invitational.

EHS took third out of four teams with six points. Host B-W won with 22 points and Amery was second with 15. Durand-Mondovi was fourth with two points.

Isaac Claesson had Ellsworth’s highest finish, taking second at No. 4 singles. He won his opening match 6-2, 6-0 over Amery’s Nick Blomstrand.

Placing third for the Panthers were Benji Mettermeier at No. 1 singles after he beat Amery’s David Teig 2-6, 7-6 (3) 10-7 in the third place match and Andy Roland after he topped Durand-Mondovi’s Zach McDonnell by injury default.

Also winning was the No. 3 doubles team of Carson Bennett and Mike Auckland in three sets 1-6, 6-1 and 10-8.

EHS is back in action this weekend again with a quad meet at Amery. Their MBC dual meet season begins next Tuesday at New Richmond.
