This summer, 28 high school students from St. Francis, Ellsworth, and St. Mary’s, Big River, will take to the road and experience the chance of a lifetime.
The June 2011 Mission Trip will take them to Tampa, Fla., where poverty is far above national standards. The group will focus on serving the needs of many homeless men, women and children. They will volunteer in soup kitchens, boys and girls clubs, homeless shelters and with street ministries.
Many from St. Francis have grown up hearing former local Father Tom Donaldson talk of the need for mission work and now, Father Roy Witucki continues this legacy. For the teens, this means a chance to put their faith in action.
These young people will have the opportunity to share the love of God in a real and tangible way. Experiences like this can be life-changing and often bring matters of faith from the head to the heart.
Preparation for their trip includes serving the poor here in this area, reaching out to family and friends for support, and encouraging the community to share in this experience.
St. Francis will host a Fundraising Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction this Sunday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. All are welcome and a freewill offering will be taken.
