Sunday State Sports Briefs: UW men's track team claims title at Drake Relays

-- The University of Wisconsin men's track and field team scored a win in the 4x1600-meter relays at the 102nd running of the Drake Relays this weekend at Drake Stadium.

DES MOINES, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin men's track and field team scored a win in the 4x1600-meter relays at the 102nd running of the Drake Relays this weekend at Drake Stadium.

The team of Maverick Darling, Reed Conner, Lucas Rucks and Rob Finnerty won the race in a time of 16:32.76. It's UW's first title in this event since 1937. The Badger tracksters also came in second in the distance medley relay and UW discus thrower Dan Block also finished second.

Three other University of Wisconsin football players were chosen in this year's NFL Draft outside the first round. Lance Kendricks, the tight end from Milwaukee, was chosen with the 47th pick in the second round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' lineman John Moffit, was picked by the Seattle Seahawks in the third round at No. 75 and lineman Bill Nagy was picked by the Dallas Cowboys deep in the seventh round.

Five birdies on the first nine holes, then pars the rest of the way for Webb Simpson, as he caught Bubba Watson for the lead at the Zurich Classic. Both golfers are tied for the top spot going into today's final round at New Orleans. Madison golfer Steve Stricker had a second strong round of four under par this time, moving into a tie for fourth place with five other competitors. They are all two shots off the pace and well within striking distance entering today's final 18 holes.

For the third year in a row Kyle Busch has celebrated his birthday by winning a Sprint Cup event in Richmond, Virginia. Busch turns 26 tomorrow. He held off Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Denny Hamlin to win Saturday's Matthew & Daniel Hansen 400 last night. Matt Kenseth had the best finish by a Wisconsin driver in 21st. Travis Kvapil of Janesville finished 30th and Paul Menard of Eau Claire 37th.
