PRESCOTT - Ellsworth High School's softball team took a big step in its quest for the Middle Border Conference title as they defeated the defending league champs Prescott 15-11 Thursday.

The game was a make-up from the scheduled last Thursday but postpined due to poor conditions at Frey Field. It was made up today and Ellsworth's scheduled contest vs. conference-leader Baldwin-Woodville pushed back to May 19.

The Panthers rallied from down six after one inning of play to outlast the Cardinals.

"That first inning was a nightmare," Ellsworth coach Ryan Casper said. "They're a good hitting team."

Prescott tallied 13 total hits while Ellsworth notched nine.

But Halle Hatch still earned the win in the circle. She struck out five, walked two and surrendered three earned runs.

Ellsworth exploded for six runs in both the fourth and sixth innings.

Kayla Christopherson led the Panthers hit a three-run triple and a sacrifice fly.

B-W is still in first place in the league at 9-0 but Ellsworth is 1.5 games back at 7-1 and with this win over Prescott has emerged as the Blackhawks' main challenger. PHS drops to 6-3 in the league.
