Weather trips reactor at Prairie Island, two reactors now offline
Regional News-- Both reactors are down at the Prairie Island nuclear power plant.
RED WING - Both reactors are down at the Prairie Island nuclear power plant.
The plant’s owner, Xcel Energy, is buying electricity from other sources. That’s because Reactor-Two was tripped by what officials believe was a thunderstorm in the area yesterday. The utility said the shut-down went safely, and no one was hurt.
The other reactor at Prairie Island has been down since late April for re-fueling. Xcel officials say the second reactor will be fired up as soon as they confirm the cause of yesterday’s shutdown.
