UW-River Falls loses first round regional game

Two Wisconsin teams won their opening games yesterday in the NCAA Division-Three softball tournament. Three others lost, and they face elimination today, including UW-River Falls.

EAU CLAIRE - Two Wisconsin teams won their opening games yesterday in the NCAA Division-Three softball tournament. Three others lost, and they face elimination today, including UW-River Falls.

At the Eau Claire Regional, Ripon College and UW-La Crosse won their openers. Ripon defeated UW-River Falls 4-2. And La Crosse topped North Central of Illinois 2-1. Saint Thomas of Saint Paul crushed the host Eau Claire 9-3.

The double-elimination tournament continues today as Eau Claire plays River Falls, La Crosse takes on Luther College, and Ripon goes against Saint Thomas. The games are being played at Gelein Field in Carson Park.

At the regional in Pella, Iowa UW-Whitewater lost a 1-0 to Coe College. The Warhawks play Benedictine today – and the loser of that game will be sent home.
