Spring Valley wraps-up Pepin and wraps up D-SC Small title

Spring Valley repeated at Dunn-St. Croix Small Division champions but did so alone this time as they beat Pepin Monday 13-3 in six innings.

PEPIN - Spring Valley repeated at Dunn-St. Croix Small Division champions but did so alone this time as they beat Pepin Monday 13-3 in six innings.

The win gives the Cardinals and insurmountable lead in the league standings as they are 8-4 while Pepin, their closest competitor, dropped to 4-6 in the league. Valley also went over the .500 mark. They become the first league champ in a couple of seasons to have a winning record in league play.

The score was tied 3-3 after five innings, but SV exploded for 10 runs in the sixth. The Lakers walked five batters and committed two of their four errors. Spring Valley also helped its cause by stealing eight bases during the game.

Winning pitcher Derek Biggs held Pepin to just three hits while he struck out 10 batters. Willy Elliot led the Cards' at the plate with two hits and three RBIs.

Spring Valley closes its league schedule Thursday at home against Plum City.
