DURAND - Prescott High School's baseball team did as it had to Monday, topping Durand by a 13-3 score. But New Richmond's doubleheader sweep of Amery leaves PHS with just once chance left to clinch a tie for the Middle Border Conference title.
New Richmond clinched a tie for its second straight league title and it now has an 11-2 record in the league play with one-game left to play. PHS is 10-3 and must win at Ellsworth Thursday and hope the Tigers stumble against Osceola the same afternoon to claim their share.
Prescott held its end up to improve to 11-3 overall. The Cardinals had 16 hits and winning pitcher Billy Brookshaw held the Panthers to five. Mike Lytle had four hits to lead the Cards and three RBIs. Derrick Munsen and Bryan Early both had three hits with Munsen belting a home runs and drove in three RBIs. Early finished with two RBIs.
Thursdasy's Highway 10 rivalry contest is set for 5 p.m. at Brown Field in Hager City.
