WIAA Baseball and Softball regional tourney pairings released

Next week begins postseason play for Pierce County's prep baseball and softball teams. The pairings for the regional tournaments were released Thursday.

Next week begins postseason play for Pierce County's prep baseball and softball teams. The pairings for the regional tournaments were released Thursday.

The first round of the regionals for softball is May 26 and for baseball it's May 27.

In baseball, in Division 2, Prescott and Ellsworth are in the same regional. The Cardinals are the No. 1 seed and have the bye while Ellsworth will host Baldwin-Woodville at 1 p.m. at Brown Field in Hager City. The winner takes on No. 2 Somerset while Prescott will play either No. 4 St. Croix Central or No. 5 Osceola at home on May 31.

In Division 3 Spring Valley is the No. 4 seed and hosts No. 5 Colfax at home at Syverson Park at 4 p.m. The winner takes on No. 1 seed Elk Mound.

In Division 4 Elmwood is the No. 3 seed and plays No. 6 seed New Auburn at Raider Field. Plum City is the No. 5 seed and will be at No. 4 Pepin. If Elmwood wins they will play at Carson Park in Eau Claire against No. 2 Immanuel Lutheran on May 31 while Plum City would be at No. 1 Chippewa Falls McDonell.

Regional finals are set for June 1. The highest remaining seed hosts the regional championship.

Ellsworth will host its first round regional tournament game in softball. The No. 2 seed Panthers take on Amery in Division 2. If the Panthers win they'll host either No. 3 Osceola or No. 6 New Richmond.

Prescott and Spring Valley-Plum City are in the same Division 3 regional. SV-PC is the No. 6 seed and plays at No. 3 Colfax. The winner takes on No. 2 Prescott at Frey Field on May 31.

In Division 4, Elmwood gets a home game as they are the No. 4 seed, taking on No. 5 Augusta. If they win they will play at No. 1 seed Chippewa Falls McDonell.

Regional finals for softball are on June 2. The highest remaining seed hosts.
