The Big Ten is considering the idea of paying student-athletes to help cover living expenses. Conference officials discussed at this week's spring meetings a proposal that would supplement living expenses on top of athletes' scholarships, according to ESPN.com. Big Ten athletic directors have talked about using some of the league's growing television revenue to pay athletes more. The proposal would bridge the gap between what athletic scholarships pay and other expenses like transportation and clothing, estimated at between two and five-thousand-dollars per player
