Pierce County's St. Croix Valley League teams dodged thunderstorms Sunday to try and get in league games.
Elmwood beat Hager City 7-1 at Elmwood in a game called after five innings while Prescott edged Ellsworth 5-3.
The host Pirates scored two unearned runs in the fifth and the Hubbers made two outs on the bases that potentially cost them runs in Prescott’s win Sunday.
“(We) gave the game away,” Ellsworth player/manager Darren Maxwell said.
Mitch Johnson allowed five runs (three earned) over 6 1/3 innings and suffered the loss. He gave up six hits, walked two and struck out one.
Ellsworth’s Lance Hove went 3-for-5 with a run in a game that was delayed twice because of rain.
Thanks to a six-run first inning in which they collected five of their six hits and drew three walks, the Expos won at home Sunday. Elmwood police suspended play in the fifth inning because of severe weather.
Hager City pitcher Darren Georgakas settled down after the first inning, but he suffered the loss. Henry Jaeger had the best day at the plate for the Skeeters, finishing 3-for-3.
Hager City dropped to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the St. Croix Valley League.
