Down goes Bruce! Cardinal nine take down state's No.1 team in D-4
If the Spring Valley softball team can upset a top-ranked squad, so can the baseball team. The Cardinals upended the state's No. 1 ranked Division 4 squad Bruce by a 13-7 score in a non-conference game Tuesday at Syverson Park.
SPRING VALLEY - If the Spring Valley softball team can upset a top-ranked squad, so can the baseball team. The Cardinals upended the state's No. 1 ranked Division 4 squad Bruce by a 13-7 score in a non-conference game Tuesday at Syverson Park.
Not only did SV win but they rallied from a 6-1 deficit by outscoring Bruce 12-1 from the third inning onward.
Derek Biggs knocked out three hits, including a double and home run and drove in five runs while scoring twice himself. Jake Rudesill finished with two hits for Valley. He drove in three runs. Troy Rudesill was the winning pitcher.
The loss was only Bruce's second of the season (18-2 overall). Spring Valley finishes the regular season 10-7 overall and hosts Colfax Friday in a first round, regional contest. The win is the Cards' only non-conference win of 2011.
