Cow Belle: Personal Profile

Filling out a personal information profile sure points out to me what an insignificant life I have lived. (Still am.)

Filling out a personal information profile sure points out to me what an insignificant life I have lived.  (Still am.)

For example:  Education… high school, three writing courses.  No prestigious college in my background.  No college, period.   It never was an option for me back then.  Just get a job as soon as possible.

Special training?    Past Hospice training.

Special talents, skills, gifts to share?  Uff-Da!  Cooking, cleaning, feeding cows, scraping the barn walk, feeding chickens, pigs, baling hay, running and fetching for Husband, weeding the garden, canning, freezing, sewing, changing diapers, washing clothes, baby-sitting the grandchildren.   What earthly good would these mundane chores be to share with anyone else?  Especially now, when I am no longer able to do any of them.  Kinda humorous even to mention them.

Work history?  All of the above.  (Besides filing clerk, office help, typesetting in newspaper office, selling Rainbow vacuum cleaners, making crafts, writing feature stories for newspapers.)

Academic achievements:  None.  Only glad to have graduated from Spring Valley High School without being at the bottom of the class. I do hope that the five books I have written bring the readers closer to the Lord.  (My reason for writing them.)

No public offices.  (Just a few spots within our church).

No musical talents.  (French horn in high school band, church choir a hundred years ago.  Ha.)

Oh my!  How very insignificant are my 84 years lived upon the face of the earth.

But, do you know what?  I wouldn’t change one thing about it.  I enjoyed the love of a good man; enjoy four good children, 11 grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, six step- great-grandchildren.  And have met and enjoyed so many people through this Cow column over these 40 years.

And through these many years, I have felt the presence of God continually, helping, guiding, chiding, encouraging, forgiving, every step of the way.

Now that I am this old, I no longer have to do all those tedious, hard-working farm chores, and I can enjoy the grandchildren and greats, without all the work that goes with it.   And since I no longer have the urge to impress anyone, I can sit in my beat-up old recliner and watch television, or read a good book, or work a cross word puzzle, or play solitaire on the computer or sit by the window and watch the array of beautiful birds at the feeder….and not feel guilty about it.

Even though my bones ache…..LIFE IS GOOD!
