Stricker four-under after first round at The Memorial

-- Madison golfer Steve Stricker shot a four-under-par 68 today in his first round at the PGA’s The Memorial tournament.

DUBLIN, Ohio - Madison golfer Steve Stricker shot a four-under-par 68 today in his first round at the PGA’s The Memorial tournament.

Stricker was tied for fourth as of early this afternoon. But Madison’s Jerry Kelly couldn’t say the same. He shot a six-over-par 78 in his opening round on the famed Jack Nicklaus course – and that tied him for 109th. Pewaukee native Mark Wilson is part of the afternoon group. He was at two-over-par after five holes. Chris Riley is the clubhouse leader at six-under.

Rhinelander native Dan Forsman will take part in the Principal Charity Classic that starts tomorrow on the PGA Champions’ Tour. The 54-hole tournament will be played in West Des Moines, Iowa. Forsman has yet to score enough points to qualify for the Charles Schwab Cup season standings.

On the LPGA women’s tour, Sherri Steinhauer of Madison is part of the field for the Shop-Rite Classic. The three-round tournament starts tomorrow in Galloway, New Jersey.
