Athletes qualify for state finals in track and field

Several Pierce County individuals and relay team qualified in their prelim races Friday at the WIAA State Track and Field meet at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

LA CROSSE - Several Pierce County individuals and relay team qualified in their prelim races Friday at the WIAA State Track and Field meet at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Prescott's Joe Smith qualified in the 400-meter dash, finishing his prelim race in third in a time of :50.43 seconds. Alex Gilles of Elmwood-Plum City also qualified in the 400, finishing 9th in :52.14. Lydia Kuhl qualified in the 100-meter high hurdles by placing eighth in :16.08.

E-PC boys' 1600-meter relay team took seventh and the Red Devil girls qualified two relays, the 4x200 which finished fifth in 1:40.45 and the 4x400 which finished third in 4:14.73.

The Prescott boys' 1600 relay team finished 11th in its prelim race and just missed qualifying. Smith also finished one spot out of qualifying for the 200-meter dash. In other results from the boys' meet, Ellsworth's Alex Campbell finished 10th in the triple jump, the E-PC boys' 800-meter relay took 15th and 3200 quarter finished 10th. Spring Valley's Conner Sieracki was 11th in the 3200-meter run.

Spring Valley is currently in eighth place in the Division 3 team standings thanks to the nine points Breanna Colbenson scored. She took third in the mile run and sixth in the 800.

Prescott's Victoria Simones finished 14th in the 1600-meter run. E-PC's Jenna Reitz finished 15th in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes.
