Several county athletes make awards stand at state track meet

Several prep athletes from Pierce County made the awards stand at the WIAA State Track and Field meet at Veteran Memorial Stadium this weekend.

LA CROSSE - Several prep athletes from Pierce County made the awards stand at the WIAA State Track and Field meet at Veteran Memorial Stadium this weekend.

The highest places went to Ellsworth's Abbey Ristow and Spring Valley's Breanna Colbenson. Ristow set a new person and school record with a state meet throw of 128 feet, seven inches to finish second by just a few inches. Colbenson took second in the 3200-meter run in 11:01.72.

Colbenson already placed in the meet Friday with a third place finish in the 1600-meter run and a sixth place showing in the 800. Her points helped Spring Valley take 13th place overall in Division 3.

Prescott's Joe Smith made the awards stand too with a third place showing in the 400-meter dash. Elmwood-Plum City's Alex Gilles came in fifth in the 800-meter run and teammate Seth Jones finished seventh. E-PC's 1600 meter relay took fifth.

E-PC had two relays place in the girls meet. The 1600 squad finished fourth and the 800 was seventh.

Other results from Saturday had Ellsworth's Alex Campbell take 12th in the high jump, the PHS 1600-meter boys' relay team finished 11th; the Prescott girls'3200 relay team finished in 14th place; Ellsworth's Lydia Kuhl finished ninth in the 100-meter high hurdles; the E-PC girls 3200 relay team finished ninth. Prescott's Victoria Simones finished 12th in the 3200-meter run and E-PC's Jordyn Mark finished 15th in the triple jump.
