Spring Valley's Shafer starts state golf play at noon

MADISON - Spring Valley High School's Kyle Shafer will begin play in the WIAA State Golf Meet at noon today.
Shafer's official tee-off time is 12:18 p.m. at University Ridge Golf Course. He'll be playing in a quartet with Southwestern's Josh Smith, Sevastopol's Ben Ehlers and Hartland University Lake School's Sean O'Neil.
The other individual golfers in the Division 3 field are Casey Heikkinen
of Prentice, Dan Romero of Brookfield Academy, David Niemuth of Manawa, Ollie Sadiq of Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah, Colten Thewis of Mellen, Landon Vinger from Kickapoo, Brad Stieber of Marathon and Luke Tribbey from Horicon.
The individual qualified golfers will golf together. The team groupings in Division 3 are Osseo-Fairchild, Lancaster, Marshfield Columbus and Kohler in one group and sectional champions Eleva-Strum, Cuba City, Stevens Point Pacelli and Oshkosh Lourdes in the second group. There will be a new champion this year as defending Division 3 champ Arcadia moved up to Division 2.
Tee off times for tomorrow will be at 7 a.m.
