Clair Austin, the successful former head coach at Goodhue High School, was named head coach of the Ellsworth High School program Monday.

Austin succeeds John Groh, who was head coach for the past two seasons.

At Goodhue, Austin's record was 109-50 with 11 section title games, eight Class A state tournaments and championships in both 2003 and 2007. Austin resigned from Goodhue in April.

He'll take over an Ellsworth program which hasn't had a winning season since 2006 nor has been to the playoffs since 2007 and has gone 2-25 over the past three seasons.

Austin will meet EHS parents and players Tuesday evening at the high school.
