MILWAUKEE - A milestone for St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa proved to be a good night for lefty Chris Narveson. The Brewers starting pitcher went eight shutout innings in an 8-0 Milwaukee victory.

It was the five thousandth game of LaRussa's sure-to-be Hall of Fame career. Ryan Braun and Corey Hart had home runs as the Brewers improved to a major league best 23-9 on their home field, Miller Park. Narveson had struggled in his three previous outings, but he was strong against the Cardinals.

If Milwaukee sweeps the three-game series the Brewers will take over the NL Central Division lead from St. Louis.

The game was marked by a small fire at a concession stand in the sixth inning. A popcorn machine malfunctioned, just like the St. Louis bats against Narveson -- a former Cardinal draft pick.
