D-2 state semis played this morning, state finals this afternoon

-- The Division-Two semi-finals were rained out last night at the state high school spring baseball tournament. They were played this morning at Fox Cities Stadium near Appleton.

GRAND CHUTE - The Division-Two semi-finals were rained out last night at the state high school spring baseball tournament. They were played this morning at Fox Cities Stadium near Appleton.

Spooner defeated Madison Edgewood 7-1 in the first game and Green Bay Notre Dame and Ripon are scoreless after one-half inning of play.

The state championship games will follow. The only defending champion, Burlington Catholic Central, takes on Chippewa Falls McDonell for the Division-Four title. Pardeeville plays Winnebago Lutheran for the D-3 crown. And Neenah goes against Eau Claire North for the Division-One trophy.

Winnebago Lutheran advanced yesterday with a 7-6 semi-final victory over Coleman in eight innings on a walk-off error. Pardeeville edged Grantsburg 6-5 in the other D-3 semi.

In yesterday’s Division-Four semi-finals, Burlington Catholic Central eliminated Rosholt 7-2, and Chippewa Falls McDonell edged Barneveld 3-2.
