Sunday Sports Briefs: Four UW players chosen in NHL Draft

-- Four players with connections to the University of Wisconsin were selected yesterday in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

ST. PAUL - Four players with connections to the University of Wisconsin were selected yesterday in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Joseph LaBate went 101st to the Stanley Cup runner-up Vancouver Canuks. The fourth-round pick arrives at UW from Academy of Holy Angels in Minnesota this fall. Badger sophomore Michael Mersch went 110th to the Los Angeles Kings. Two Badgers were also selected in the seventh round - defenseman Patrick Daly and forward Brad Navin. Daly was taken by the New Jersey Devils and Navin by the Buffalo Sabres.

Running out of gas cost Justin Allgaier victory in Saturday's Bucyrus 200 road race. Reed Sorenson was ruled the winner by NASCAR in a disputed finish in the Nationwide Series race. Sorenson was reportedly sick right after the race.
