The National Weather Service says western Wisconsin is about to get its longest heat wave in 10 years. And forecasters say much of the central and eastern U-S will bake under combined heat-and-humidity index readings of up to 115-degrees.

The weather service has issued an “excessive heat watch” for parts of western Wisconsin from mid-day on Sunday through Wednesday night. But meteorologists in La Crosse say the hot-and-muggy weather could persist during all of next week – and they’re urging folks to make sure the elderly and those with pre-existing health issues stay as cool as they can.

The weather service says the heat will start building up tomorrow in the Badger State. Today is the final day of highs in the 70’s in many places. By tomorrow, forecasters say all of Wisconsin will be in the 80’s with a chance of thunderstorms. And on Sunday, the entire state will be in the 90’s – and the Great Lakes will only provide a couple of degrees of relief. The state forecast calls for a bit of relief on Tuesday, when some parts of Wisconsin will be in the 80’s – while the rest of the state continues to see the ‘90’s.
