Viking's QB Webb working out with Favre

Minnesota Sports
-- Current Vikings quarterback Joe Webb is working out with former Vikings quarterback Brett Favre this off-season.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Current Vikings quarterback Joe Webb is working out with former Vikings quarterback Brett Favre this off-season.

A story appearing on the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) athletics website reports that Webb has spent the last few weeks in Favre's hometown of Hattiesburg, Mississippi working out with the future Hall of Fame signal-caller. Webb, a former player at UAB, tells the webpage that the NFL lockout has forced players into individual workouts and that's why he's getting help from Favre. Webb admits the workouts still aren't the same as if he would be able to work out with the full team in mini-camps this summer.

Webb took over for an injured Favre at the end of last season and helped the Vikings to a win in Philadelphia. Webb says Favre can still "sling" the football. He says it has been great getting help from Favre. The Vikings are scheduled to open the preseason on August 13th at Tennessee. Webb will be battling first-round draft choice Christian Ponder and late 2010-11 acquisition Rhett Bomar for playing time.

The NFL may be a step closer to ending the lockout. ESPN reports owners and players have agreed in principle to a rookie wage pool. That item has been a major hurdle in the ongoing labor negotiations. The NFL Network reports owners have made concessions regarding the fifth-year compensation for rookies. League owners are scheduled to meet in Atlanta next Thursday with the hopes of having a new collective bargaining agreement proposal to vote on. Training camps are slated to open later this month, with the NFL Hall of Fame Game scheduled for August 7th.
