Wisconsin’s corn crop is growing nicely. Officials said the crop grew by an average of a foot in the last week, due mainly to good growing weather.
The corn is now 56-inches tall – but it’s still eight-inches below normal. Strong winds flattened some of the corn in southwest Wisconsin last week, but much of it’s standing tall again. Seventy-three percent of the state’s corn is in good-to-excellent shape.
Soybeans are also doing well, with 73-percent good-to-excellent. And over a quarter of the beans are blooming. Farmers continue to make lots of hay, with almost three-fourths of the second crop in. That’s 12-percent ahead of the norm.
The heat and a lack of rain are putting a stress in crops in south-central and southeast Wisconsin. Soil moisture statewide is listed as 26-percent short.
