Northern Michigan voted into WCHA
Regional Sports-- The Western Collegiate Hockey Association announced yesterday that Northern Michigan will be the newest member of the league, beginning competition in 2013.
ST. PAUL -- The Western Collegiate Hockey Association announced yesterday that Northern Michigan will be the newest member of the league, beginning competition in 2013.
Northern Michigan had been in the WCHA from 1984-97, winning the NCAA national title in 1991. They are a current member of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.
The move comes a week after it was announced that the WCHA would be losing five members in 2013, including Minnesota-Duluth. Minnesota and Wisconsin had already announced a departure in 2013 The Northern Michigan addition would bring league membership to six in 2013, including Bemidji State, Minnesota State-Mankato, and St. Cloud State.
There's a chance other modifications and additions could be made to the WCHA membership list between now and then, including the addition of Minnesota State-Moorhead, who announced plans to move its hockey to Division I
