While Ina Murray revels in her being elderly, she also exhibits a great deal of naivete when she repeats erroneous information that she or someone else sees on the Internet. She did it again this week when her entire column is about changing the words of history.
It is true that President Roosevelt uttered the words “So help us God” (not “So help me God” as Ina reported) when he spoke to the nation on Dec. 8, 1941.
The words were not left off the quote on the World War II Memorial. The quote is accurate. The “So help us God” phrase appeared a couple of paragraphs later in the President’s speech.
