Wilson, Budmayr contest for UW quarterback position
Wisconsin Sports-- The competition for the starting quarterback job at the University of Wisconsin is heating up.
MADISON - The competition for the starting quarterback job at the University of Wisconsin is heating up.
Newcomer Russell Wilson had a good day Monday, as he tries to win the starting job over Jon Budmayr.
It was the first practice in half-pads for the Badgers. Wilson completed six straight passes during a 7-on-7 drill, while Budmayr completed just two of six passes during his first possession. He also threw an interception.
Wilson says he knows there's a lot of pressure on him as the
new quarterback of the Wisconsin Badgers, but he's not letting it
bother him. Wilson told reporters at UW's Media Day that he's heard
the criticism of him since he transferred from North Carolina State to
Wisconsin. But he says he'll continue to work hard and be committed to
being great--not just average. Wilson transferred from NC State after
the coach there told him to give up minor league baseball in favor of
participating in spring drills with the football team. Wilson had
already graduated from North Carolina State, so he can play right away
for the Badgers, even though he only arrived in Madison at the end of
June.
