Packer fans packing team practices

GREEN BAY - The Green Bay Packers say they know they're packing in the fans at preseason practice, but there's no immediate plan to expand the facility.

Nitschke Field has room for about 1,500 fans, and it has been full for the first ten days of camp. Team executive Jason Wied says they've talked about adding more seats, but for now, the plan is to keep the capacity where it is.

The tight end position is a strong one for Green Bay as practice continues, but that doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement. Jermichael Finley has been dealing with more dropped balls than usual for this time of year. Coach Ben McAdoo says he doesn't think it's a long-term problem--just a matter of Finley trying to get his timing back after missing last year.

Nobody can question the toughness of Green Bay Packer Clay Matthews. A

report in the Green Bay Press-Gazette today says Matthews actually

played with a stress fracture in his lower leg for the second half of

last season. The injury didn't hobble him too much, though, because

Matthews had 17 quarterback sacks for the season, including the

playoffs.

The Packers released their first depth chart back on Tuesday. Erik Walden

is listed at number-one at right outside linebacker, ahead of Frank

Zombo and Brad Jones. Coach Mike McCarthy also says the team's left

guard position is wide open. TJ Lang and Derek Sherrod are competing

for that spot. Nick McDonald has a chance to see playing time there,

but McCarthy says he thinks it's important to keep him at center.

McCarthy also praised Marshall Newhouse, who he says did a "lot of

nice things" playing left and right tackle at Tuesday's practice.

You'll be able to catch former Green Bay running back Ahman Green on TV this fall. Green has been picked to serve as a sideline analyst for the Big Ten Network. Green played college football at Nebraska, which is joining the Big Ten this year.
