Lake Michigan fishery hurt by quagga mussel

MILWAUKEE - For the first time since the 19th Century, no commercial fishing boats are operating out of Milwaukee.
Some fishermen say they can’t make a living so they are moving to Alaska.
A biologist at the University of Notre Dame blames the fish shortage on the quagga mussel. He says trillions of them are smothering the bottom of Lake Michigan, almost from shore to shore, and are stripping away the plankton that had sustained the big lake’s native fish for thousands of years.
