Dayton has struck down a request by environmental groups for a smaller three-lane bridge, instead of the planned four-lane bridge that would connect Oak Park Heights with Houlton, Wisconsin.

Dayton says the new span to replace the aging Stillwater Lift Bridge is finally on course for construction and Mn-DOT officials say they will start work immediately if the plan goes through.
Lawmakers from both Minnesota and Wisconsin have urged Congress to go around environmental objections and approve the $690-million project.
