NRC cites Prairie Island plant for safety violation
Minnesota News-- The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has cited Xcel Energy for a "low to moderate" safety violation at its Prairie Island power plant near Red Wing.
RED WING -- The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has cited Xcel Energy for a "low to moderate" safety violation at its Prairie Island power plant near Red Wing.
The N-R-C says tests showed battery chargers that are part of the reactors' remote-controlled back-up power system "were susceptible to failure under certain conditions."
Regulators say Xcel has taken actions to fix the problem which is classified as a "low to moderate safety significance."
