Minnesota Sports-- The University of Minnesota football team is back to a single football practice today after they went through a pair of workouts on campus yesterday.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota football team is back to a single football practice today after they went through a pair of workouts on campus yesterday.
Fall camp continues for Minnesota, which opens the season on September 3rd at USC. The Golden Gophers practice this afternoon is open to the public at the Gibson-Nagurski Football Complex.
The squad will practice twice tomorrow and then scrimmage on Saturday morning at TCF Bank Stadium. The Saturday workout is also open to the public and begins at 9:50 a.m. First-year coach Jerry Kill says he is trying not to tolerate mistakes in camp and trying to drive home the point that playing mistake-free football is how to win important games in the Big Ten.

A former record-setting Golden Gopher quarterback is the new coach of the arena football team in Iowa. Mike Hohenssee was named the Iowa Barnstormers head coach this week. He had previously coached arena football in Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington, Albany, New England, and Anaheim. He won the Arena Bowl title in 2006 with Chicago. He played quarterback for the University of Minnesota in 1981 and 1982. He set numerous passing records for the Gophers at the time. He still holds the Gopher record for pass attempts in a game when he threw 67 times in a contest against Ohio State in 1981. He completed 37 of those passes, also still a school record.
