FERGUS FALLS, Minn. -- Governor Dayton kicks off his statewide economic development tour in Fergus Falls today with a visit to Pioneer Care Center -- which the governor's office calls a state-of-the-art assisted-care facility built by leveraging public and private funds.

Pioneer Care's Steve Guttormson says "blended workers" respond to residents' everyday needs more quickly -- for example, someone in housekeeping can also help transfer a resident from their bed to their chair. He says this model of care is so new that the state's regulations haven't really caught up to it.

Guttormson says Pioneer Care Center has six "households," each with 15 to 20 residents, giving the atmosphere a warm and inviting feel.
