Ellsworth church follows Christ’s lead by going to people

First, a group from an Ellsworth church took the Good News to an area bar.
Next, they brought the message to area parks, most recently one in east end. Soon, their mission will have them going to a local lake.
All of these travels by English Lutheran Church members are done with a similar idea in mind: returning to the principles Christ taught, according to Dale Bohnert, vice president and evangelism purpose champion.
Acts II in the Bible tells how Jesus and his disciples gathered with others in the temple, Bohnert said Thursday. At various times, he was at the beach, in the field, atop a rock or on a hillside.
“Somehow we’ve taught ourselves we have to have formal buildings when we worship,” he said, adding, “they get to be idols.”
Taking advantage of the relatively mild late summer and early fall weather, organizers have embarked on another effort to follow Christ’s example, the V.P. said. “Sermons in Shorts” is a program in its second year.
