GREEN BAY - Green Bay Packers’ inside linebackers’ coach Winston Moss is finding his job to be a lot quieter this year – and he’s teaching a lot more. Before training camp started, the Badgers cut veterans Brandon Chillar and Nick Barnett – who was one of the more vocal members of the group.

Desmond Bishop and A.J. Hawk are now the oldest players at the inside linebacker spot – and with several young players trying to be backups, Moss says he’s doing a lot more teaching and guidance. Sixth-round rookie D.J. Smith is competing for a back-up job along with first-year player Cardia Jackson and second-year pro Robert Francois. And the Packers could have some tough choices at the position when they reduce roster to the regular season limit of 53 over the next eight days.

Not all Cubs fans are friendly when they visit Milwaukee – but Cubs’ owner Todd Ricketts helped a great cause when he joined 650 bicyclists on a 100-mile trip from Wrigley Field on Chicago’s North Side to Miller Park.

They're raising about $300,000 for World Bicycle Relief, a group that provides heavy-duty bikes in the sub-Sahara region of Africa. Ricketts was on the board of World Bicycle Relief when he bought a majority interest in the Cubs in 2009. He said he never had a bike as a kid – so he’s been obsessed about riding one for most of his adult life. FK Day, who founded World Bicycle Relief, says a sturdy bike can often provide a person’s only rides to school, work, and medical appointments in Africa.

The Brewers’ winter festival will be held on January 29th – a Sunday. The annual “Brewers on Deck” will take place at Milwaukee’s Frontier Airlines Center. As always, it will feature various games, question-and-answer segments, and autograph sessions with Brewer players and coaches. Tickets go on sale September first.
