PRESCOTT - Prescott High School will need a new girls' basketball and boys' track and field head coaches for the 2011-12 school years.
Head Girls Basketball Coach John Ott and Head Boys' Track and Field Coach Bart Appleton announced their resignations ealier this month.
Ott had been the girls coach for two seasons, compiling an overall record of 25-23. Last season the Cardinals were runners-up in the Middle Border Conference. Before coming to PHS he had been a head coach in football and basketball in Minnesota. He also was an assistant football coach and special education teacher in the high school.
Appleton had worked in the PHS district for 22 years where he taught 7th grade science and had been an assistant track and middle school football coach before taking of the heading coaching job from Athletic Director Dave Vortherms in 2007. The Cardinals never finished lower than fifth in the MBC meet and finished as high as third in 2009 despite being the smallest school in the league. He also coached several athletes to the state meet like Joe Smith, Cole Geiger, Nick Mossong and Jessop Keene among others.
