The Green Bay Packers will hold a ground-breaking ceremony at 11 a.m. tomorrow morning for the latest expansion of Lambeau Field. 6,600 seats will be added in the south end zone, increasing the stadium’s total capacity to about 79,000. Packers’ president Mark Murphy and other team officials will take part in the ceremony. Other projects include high-tech video boards, an improved sound system, and a roof-top viewing area for the north club seats. The total cost is $143-million, to be funded by the team. The new seats are expected to be ready for the 2013 Packer season.

The Marquette University men’s basketball team will open its Big East Conference schedule on New Year’s Day at home against Villanova. The league schedule was announced today – and this marks the third time in four years that Marquette is opening against ‘Nova at the Bradley Center. The Golden Eagles will play four of their first six conference games at home – but the pundits say two of those opponents are favorites to win the league title, Syracuse and Louisville. Also, Marquette will play five of its seven contests in February on the road. It’s clear that Buzz Williams’ team will be challenged strongly, after making the Sweet-16 in last spring’s NCAA Tournament. Marquette announced its non-conference schedule earlier. The Eagles open at home against Mount Saint Mary on November 11th. Their Thanksgiving tournament will be the Paradise Jam in late November.
