UW's Wilson named Big Ten Player of the Week

Wisconsin Sports
-- University of Wisconsin quarterback Russell Wilson was named yesterday as the Big Ten's offensive player-of-the-week.

MADISON - University of Wisconsin quarterback Russell Wilson was named yesterday as the Big Ten's offensive player-of-the-week.

The senior transfer from N.C. State threw for 255 yards and two touchdowns in the Badgers' win over Nevada-Las Vegas last Thursday. And Wilson ran for 62 yards and another score. He was the second player in Wisconsin history to throw for 250 yards and run for at least 50 more in the same game -- and he was the first to do it since 1979.

Sophomore Ryan Groy is expected to start at left guard on Saturday, when Wisconsin hosts Oregon State. Groy will replace Travis Frederick, who’s out for at least a week with a sprained MCL ligament in his left knee which he suffered in last Thursday’s win over Nevada-Las Vegas. Groy practiced as the Number-One center with the Badgers in the spring, while Peter Konz was out with an injured ankle. Coach Bret Bielema says he’s impressed with the way Groy has handled things. He started two games at fullback for the Badgers a year ago.
