Xcel Energy customers asked to be on alert for telephone scammers
Regional News--- Xcel Energy customers are asked to be on alert for telephone scammers.
ST. PAUL -- Xcel Energy customers are asked to be on alert for telephone scammers.
The utility says out-of-state callers pose as Xcel representatives and falsely tell customers they forgot to sign their monthly payment check. They then ask for credit card information. Xcel spokesman Steve Roalstad advises potential victims to take note of the number and call police right away. He says they are not going to stop until the perpetrators are caught.
Roalstad says Xcel does not call customers requesting credit card information if a payment check has not been signed. He says the scammers appear to be targeting older Xcel customers.
