UW shuts out Oregon State 35-0

MADISON - A dominant University of Wisconsin defense blanked Oregon State 35-0 Saturday afternoon at Camp Randall Stadium.
What wasn't dominant was the usually-strong Badger running game -- at least it was stuffed early in the contest. With the ground game waiting until the second half to hit high gear, coach Bret Bielema's team depended on the defense and several special teams mistakes by the visitors.
Transfer quarterback Russell Wilson was a star again, hitting 17-of-21 passes for 189 yards and three touchdowns. Two of the scoring passes went to tight end Jacob Pedersen.
The Beavers helped the Wisconsin cause with a punt that went a negative four yards and a kickoff return that saw the return man round out of bounds inside the five yard line.
Montee Ball wound up rushing for 118 yards and a touchdown as the Badgers improved their record to 2-0.
UW plays Northern Illinois at Soldier Field next Saturday, then hosts South Dakota September 24th, before starting Big Ten play against Nebraska on Oct. 1.
