Ellsworth High School didn't dominate Glenwood City from start to finish of their non-conference match Monday but dominated when it had to in the 3-0 sweep of the Hilltoppers at home.
In all three games Glenwood City either tied or led the Panthers early on. But in all three games the Panthers poured on the points whether they came from kills from Abbey Ristow or Jessy Tingelohff or one of the six aces EHS in the match.
The game scores were 25-17, 25-15 and 25-14.
"We had our lulls here and there but I'm pleased with the fact they knew when get together and start playing," EHS head coach Tanya Powers said.
Tingelhoff had Ellsworth's best overall game as she had 16 assists, eight kills, six digs and two aces. Ristow finished with eight kills also along with eight digs and an ace.
Other Panthers stats had Kenzie Diercks the team leader in digs with 12 to go with two kills. Morgan Christopherson had 10 digs and two aces. Olivia Helmer also had a solid all-around game for the Panthers as she had eight assists, three kills and 10 digs and Tacia Kuhl finished with two kills, five digs and an ace.
Middle Border Conference play begins Thursday for Ellsworth at Amery. Powers feels the team is playing like a contender for the MBC title.
"For us to be successful we need contributions from everyone so teamwork is vitally important," Powers said. "Right now our teamwork has been great. We don't have the one great player to goto but that means we're getting points from a lot of different players. A lot of kids played tonight, which is nice when you have to play again later in the week. The things we need to improve on and make sure we're consistent with to be contenders are passing and serving, which we missed to many tonight and we need to fix."
Ellsworth improves to 11-10 overall.
