CINCINNATI - Ryan Braun becomes just the second Milwaukee Brewer in team history to have a 30-30 season. Braun pounded two home runs Friday night, leading his team to a 6-3 win over the Cincinnati Reds. That reduced Milwaukee’s magic number to just seven and helped slow down the charge of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Milwaukee had five home runs in the win, four given up by Cincinnati starter and loser Bronson Arroyo. He’s surrendered 44 on the season, just six away from the all-time record. Left-hander Randy Wolf gave up three runs and seven hits in seven innings while picking up his 13th win. John Axford pitched the ninth for his 43rd save.
The Cardinals were 4-2 winners at Philadelphia in 11 innings, but weren’t able to make up any ground on Milwaukee as the season moves into its final days. Tommy Harper is the only other Milwaukee player to hit 30 home runs and steal 30 bases in the same season.
