Ellsworth and Prescott boys' harriers on top of Osceola Invite

Mahtomedi, Minn. was top team in the field with 40 points followed by No. 12 ranked Grantsburg with 73 points. Ellsworth scored 129 followed by Prescott 138, St. Croix Falls 138, Osceola 203, Rice Lake 215, New Richmond 224, Somerset 228, Boyceville 232, Webster 236, Glenwood City 263, Durand 339 and Baldwin-Woodville 374.
Both the Cardinals and Panthers had the top two runners in the meet. Prescott’s Cole Hauenstein finished first in 16:14 on the tough Osceola course and Ellsworth’s Matt Priest was second in 16:25.
Ellsworth’s scoring saw Ike Taplin take 21st in 17:39, Lucas Green 27th in 17:54, Jaylen Pavloski, 32nd in 18:07; Isaac Benck, 44th in 18:44; James Jean, 45th in 18:45 and Tyler Marson, 47th in 18:49.
PHS’s Matt Pechacek finished in the top 10 to medal as well, taking ninth place in 17:01. He was followed by Nick Helberg, 22nd in 17:40; Cameron Cruz, 37th in 18:19; Nick Strandine, 69th in 19:29; Austin Fay, 85th in 20:48 and Kerry Spindler, 89th in 21:23.
Prescott’s Victoria Simones had her best finish of the season so far, a second in 19:35 behind Osceola’s McKenzie Fortier, who won in a time of 19:28.
Mahtomedi completed the sweep by winning the girls’ meet with a score of 57 followed by New Richmond 68, Rice Lake 80, Osceola 145, Baldwin-Woodville 158, Webster 160, Ellsworth 201, St. Croix Falls 209, Prescott 215, Glenwood City 267, Shell Lake 300, Somerset 311, Grantsburg 357, Boyceville INC. and Durand INC.
For Ellsworth, Cassie Lofgren put in the Panthers’ top time and place with a 17th in 20:55. Following this for the Purple were Payton Bjorkman, 38th in 22:13; Kennedy Kowalchyk, 39th in 22:15; Kelsey Betthauser, 53rd in 22:46; Rebecca Matzek, 54th in 22:58 and Amy Rinke, 73rd in 25:39.
Following Simones’ showing for Prescott were Elly Boles, 48th in 22:34; Kanya Dwire, 49th in 22:39; Annie Weinfertner, 51st in 22:40; Katie Mutschler, 65th in 24:19; Alicia Carlsen, 81st in 28:20 and Annie Keene, 82nd in 28:22.
Ellsworth and Prescott will meet again at next Tuesday’s Ellsworth Invitational.
