MADISON - The University of Wisconsin women's hockey Badgers played like the defending national champions they are, routing Lindenwood of St. Charles, Missouri, by an 11-0 score.
Some members of the opening night crowd got commemorative pucks and the National Championship banner was unveiled prior to the start of the game. Brooke Ammerman, Brianna Decker and Kelly Jaminski scored two goals apiece as the Badgers exploded for seven scores in the second period. Wisconsin outshot Lindenwood 49-11 and was never seriously threatened. Jaminski, Laurel Miller and Natalie Berg each had three assists.

Four defensive starters practiced for the Green Bay Packers yesterday, meaning the team will almost be at full strength for tomorrow's rematch of last season's NFC Championship game at Chicago. Only Pro Bowl safety Nick Collins will be missing. His neck injury will keep him out for the rest of the season. Linebacker Clay Matthews, defensive end Ryan Pickett and cornerbacks Charles Woodson and Tramon Williams are all listed as probable for the rivalry game against the Bears. Williams plans to wear a protective shoulder harness as the Packers try to slow down opposing passers. Both Drew Brees and Cam Newton shredded Green Bay's defense for more than 400 yards in the first two games.

The NBA said this morning that training camps would be delayed indefinitely as the owners’ lockout nears the end of its third month. Two Milwaukee Bucks’ exhibition games have also been canceled – October 11th at Cleveland, and October 15th at home against Washington. The home contest was supposed to be the annual fund-raising contest for the Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer. The Bucks helped start the organization in the mid-1970’s and remains a partner today. And vice-president John Steinmiller said the Bucks will make sure that commitment continues. It was reported yesterday that NBA Commissioner David Stern would call the teams today to announce a delay. All exhibition games throughout the league are off through at least October 15th.

A former Milwaukee Bucks’ basketball player was scheduled to appear in court today on charges that he helped run a Ponzi scheme. Federal prosecutors said 43-year-old Tate George was part of a group that ran a two-million-dollar investment fraud ring. Authorities said George persuaded former pro athletes and other people to invest in what he promised would be high-end real estate projects. But instead, officials said George used some of the money to pay previous investors and personal expenses. He spent parts of four seasons in the NBA, mostly with New Jersey. George played in three games for Milwaukee in the 1994-95 season. He had career averages of around four points and two assists per game, mostly as a reserve.
