MONDOVI - Instead fighting and clawing their way for playoff bid in the last week of the season, the Spring Valley High School football team sewed a bid up already after beating Mondovi Friday 21-6.

No. 11 ranked SV was up 15-6 and sealed the win with a one-yard TD run by quarterback Jon Newton in the fourth quarter.

Valley led 8-0 at halftime thanks to a touchdown run by Steve Von Haden and a safety. Von Haden scored his second touchdown in the third quarter. He finished with 110 yards rushing.

Spring Valley notched its third Dunn-St. Croix Conference win and is 6-1 overall. The Cardinals will make the playoffs for the first time since 2008 and will now try for its first D-SC title since 2001 as they face Boyceville and St. Croix Central over the next two weeks.
