Prescott volleyball upends Ellsworth 3-1

Ellsworth's chances for a Middle Border Conference title in volleyball were badly damaged in a 3-1 loss to Highway 10 rival Prescott Tuesday.

PRESCOTT - Ellsworth's chances for a Middle Border Conference title in volleyball were badly damaged in a 3-1 loss to Highway 10 rival Prescott Tuesday.

Prescott easily took the first two games 25-13, 25-19. Ellsworth came back to win Game 3 25-14 and led for much of Game 4. But before the Panthers could force a Game 5, the Cardinals rallied behind the serving Paige Durhman and the hitting of Kayla Lytle and Anna Wieser and Kate Kroska. They engineered a 17-6 run as the Cards' trailed 15-8 at one point in Game 4. Katy Syverson scored a pair of back-to-back aces to help secure the contest.

"We know how to come from behind now," PHS head coach Patti Tulip said. "We had to do so to beat Spring Valley and win the Amery Invitational and we did it tonight."

The win is PHS's second in a row in league play and coupled with their weekend success at Amery, put their overall record at an even .500, 23-23 and 3-3 in the MBC. Ellsworth falls back to 4-2 in the league and 15-12. overall.

There's no Thursday night matches in the league this week but Prescott will play in another weekend tournament, this one in La Crosse at Logan High School. Ellsworth, meanwhile, will have to stew over this loss for a full week before wrapping up the regular season next Tuesday at home vs. Durand. Prescott also closes its regular season at home next Tuesday and will do so vs. Amery.
