SPRING VALLEY - No. 8 Spring Valley's surprisingly lopsided 34-12 win over Boyceville has the Cardinals all set for a showdown with St. Croix Central for a piece of the Dunn-St. Croix championship next Thursday.

The Bulldogs went into the contest 5-2 against the 6-1 Cards' but Valley controlled the first half to lead 13-0 at the break and put 14 more points on the board in the third quarter for a 27-0 lead and exteneded it to 34-0 before Boyceville tacked two late fourth quarter scores.

Five different players scored TDs for SV. Andy Bune had an eight-yard scoring run and Kyle Bosshart ran in from seven-yards out. Steve Von Haden scored on a 12-yard run and wide receiver Gabe Verges caught a 37-yard TD pass from quarterback Jon Newton in the third quarter. Newton himself wouldn't be denied the endzone as he scored on a four-yard run.

Von Haden led Spring Valley with 90 yards rushing and Newton was 4-for-9 for 62 yards.

Spring Valley will try for a share of their first D-SC crown since 2001 when they take on undefeated and No. 5 ranked St. Croix Central. The Panthers already have a share of the league title they clinched last week with a 26-0 win over Boyceville. The game is set for Thursday in Hammond with kick-off at 7 p.m.

Also that day at Central will be the Dunn-St. Croix Conference cross country meet beginning at 4 p.m.
