Ball named Big Ten Player of the Week on offense
Wisconsin Sports-- University of Wisconsin running back Montee Ball was named today as the Big Ten’s offensive football player-of-the-week. The junior ran for three touchdowns and passed for another in the Badgers’ 59-7 home pounding of Indiana on Saturday.
MADISON - University of Wisconsin running back Montee Ball was named today as the Big Ten’s offensive football player-of-the-week. The junior ran for three touchdowns and passed for another in the Badgers’ 59-7 home pounding of Indiana on Saturday.
Ball had 14 carries for 142 yards, plus a 46-yard catch. He also threw a 25-yard scoring pass to quarterback Russell Wilson. Ball accounted for 213 total yards as the Badgers improved to 2-0 in the conference, and 6-0 overall. Ball has scored at least once in each of his last 12 contests.

Former Wisconsin receiver Al Toon will be enshrined tonight into the New York Jets’ Ring-of-Honor. After being drafted in the first round in 1985, Toon was the Jets’ MVP in each of the next three seasons. He averaged 82 catches a year during that stretch for 1,073 yards and six touchdowns. Toon spent eight years in the NFL, all with New York, before returning to Madison. He’s now an owner of two branches of Capital Bank in Madison. Al Toon is also an investor in Burger King restaurants and the Olson-Toon landscaping company.
His son Nick is now a senior with the Badger football team. Nick’s been out with a foot injury, and he’s expected to return on Saturday night at Michigan State. But of course, Nick Toon is first expected to watch his father’s induction at tonight’s Jets-Miami Dolphins game before returning to Madison for practice this week. Al Toon is among four Jets’ legends to be inducted in the Ring-of-Honor tonight. The others are running back Freeman McNeil, linebacker Larry Grantham, and defensive end Gerry Philbin.
