TO THE EDITOR: I recently participated in being an interviewer for the Pierce County 4-H Ambassador Program.

I have to admit I was greatly surprised on how well these fine applicants were able to articulate their answers to questions of the interviewers. I, having very little to no knowledge of 4-H, was very impressed. In Pierce County, I always thought the 4 Hs stood for me and three of my cousins. Either that or four Hines.

I was hesitant to accept this position because of my lack of expertise in the 4-H program. Having these youth, ages 11 to 16, answer questions and inform me to what the 4-H program is all about gave me a great appreciation of the 4-H participants plus all the Pierce County staff and volunteers that help provide the guidance necessary to groom our leaders of tomorrow. Teaching the art of doing interviews. Being able to stand up and explain their project or goals in life. Joining with families to promote a better tomorrow, all with the 4-H motto to guide.

The taxpayers of Pierce County should be very proud of the 4-H program. The 4-H program provides interest and a payback on the investment that can only be measured by the intelligence of individuals that have the foresight to understand what it takes to create a proactive society.

Appreciation goes to the 4-H participants, Pierce County staff and all the family and volunteers that make the Pierce County 4-H program such a success.
