I was sorry to miss the “Peace In The Valley” concert last Sunday at the Spring Valley Stagehands Theater.
But a thoughtful friend brought me a DVD of the performance. (Thank you, Ron), so we got to enjoy it right in the comfort of my living room! What an uplifting concert, featuring so many beautiful, favorite hymns.
Our thanks to these musicians and performers for sharing their talents with this inspirational concert!
Every fall, when the weather begins to cool, I get a hankering to make a pot of chili; and it just doesn’t make sense to me to make just a “little bit” of chili. So I usually make a big pot and freeze a bunch of smaller servings.
I love chili with all the good stuff in it: onion chunks, chopped tomatoes, kidney beans (the dark red kind), and made with V-8 juice, tomato paste, tomato soup, chili powder and a bit of brown sugar. But NO mushrooms. Yuk.
Looking back, I remember the “chili assortment” I used to make when our children were still at home. Husband and I liked the loaded kind, but some of the kids didn’t like onions, some didn’t like chunky tomatoes and one didn’t like kidney beans.
And back then, I was sucker enough to make four kinds, no onion kind, no kidney bean kind and no chunky tomato kind, besides the loaded kind. Pretty dumb, I guess. But it made us all happy!
Now I just make the loaded kind.
Each time I look out the window and see the neatly piled cords of wood out there, I get a warm feeling!
Warmth to my children for all the hard work they have done to keep me warm through the winter. I also get a warm feeling, looking ahead to a cheery blaze in the fire place on the first cold evening, coming soon! I love it.
Our sympathy to the family and friends of the Jim Chishoms in the passing of his mother. Also to the family of Marilyn Fischer, who passed away last week. Marilyn was a relative of mine (second or third cousin). She was a sweet person.
Happy Birthday to Marion (ME) whose birthday is on Oct. 20.
And last but not least, congratulations to two of my great grandsons: Iain Gilby, who bagged his first deer on the youth hunt weekend! Austin Odalen also got a deer again this year. Good job, boys!
